Top Slovenian coach Slaviša Stojanović applies for Ghana coaching job

Slaviša Stojanović, a highly-regarded Slovenian coach, has applied for the vacant post with Ghana’s national team.

The Black Stars are without a coach since last month’s departure of Avram Grant in the wake of a disappointing showing at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Ghana FA have set up a special committee tasked with finding the team’s next coach and applications will be welcomed until the deadline of this Friday (March 10).

One of the applicants is Stojanović, a 47-year-old Slovenian of Serbian descent. In 2008 he became the youngest manager to win the Slovenian league championship two times in succession, after leading Domzale to back-to-back titles.

He also won the Serbian championship with Red Star Belgrade in 2014 and has also had spells with the national teams of UAE and Slovenia, Belgian side Lierse SK and Chinese Super League side Changchun Yatai.

The Ghana FA hopes to name a new coach for the Black Stars by the end of the month.
