Tottenham and Southampton Set to Battle it Out for £6m-Rated Hoffenheim Forward Mark Uth

Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton arereportedlyvying for the signature of Hoffenheim forward, Mark Uth, with the intention of signing the German in the summer when his contract enters it's final year, according to a report in theMirror.

Uth has begun to build on a decent showing last season for Hoffenheim, where his eight goals went some way to fill the void left by Liverpool's Roberto Firmino, and has five league goals so far this season in 10 games.

The left-footed 25-year-old is quite quick andcan play in a number of different forward positions, leading to his consideration for national team duty before an unfortunate injury ruled him out for the closing months of 2016.

Before Hoffenheim, Uth enjoyed a fruitful spell at Dutch side SC Heerenveen, where he scored 15 goals and collected 10 assists in 33 games for the club. Whilst at Heerenveen, Uth also broke a recordby winning and scoring the fastest penalty in the history of Dutch football - eight seconds.

Spurs climbed above bitter rivals Arsenal into third earlier this week after an impressive 2-0 win over London rivals, Chelsea. Summer signing Vincent Janssen, however, has had virtually nothing to do with Tottenham's rise up the table, scoring just one goal in the league this season.

Janssen shared the spot up front with Son Heung-Min at one point -the South Koreanhas scored six so far this season - and given the form of the Dutchman, it wouldn't be too surprising if Mauricio Pochettino was considering a move for Uth to provide support for Harry Kane.

Southampton, on the other hand, are sat in 10th after a much less consistent season where they have won six, drawn six and lost eight.

With just 19 goals so far this year the Saints are the second-lowest goalscorers in the Premier League, joint with Sunderland, and may be in the market for a forward of Uth's calibre if Shane Long, Sofiane Boufal and Nathan Redmond continue struggle to produce the goods in Charlie Austin's absence.
