Tottenham Defender Kevin Wimmer Set to Return to Former Club on Loan

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Wimmer looks set to return to his former club on loan, according toreports in Germany.


The 24-year-old has struggled to earn a regular stint in Mauricio Pochettino's line-up following a£4.3m switch last summer, making just one Premier League appearance so far this season.

As a result, a return toFC Köln looks likely to be his next destination on what is set to be a loan deal until the end of the season.


Bundesliga outfitWolfsburg were also interested in signing the Austrian international, butGermany publicationKickerare convinced that Wimmer will return toKöln in January.

Wimmer has struggled to get into the Spurs starting line-up this season due to the solid form of bothJan Vertonghen andToby Alderweireld, whose partnership, along with covering defender Eric Dier, has seen Spurs earn the second best defensive record in the league this season.


The Lilywhites are 5th after 18 games, one point behind bitter-rivals Arsenal and 10 points behind league leaders Chelsea.
