Tottenham Target Real Madrid Outcast Isco as Spaniard's Bernabeu Exit Looms Large

Published on: 27 August 2016

Tottenham are eyeing an ambitiousmove for Real Madrid misfit Isco, who appears to be close to an exit from the Bernabeu, as the Spanish club look to trim their squad ahead of the closing of the transfer window.

Reported in the Mirror, the European champions are under pressure to choose between Isco and James Rodriguez as they look to cut their wage bill.

Spurs will be boosted by the news that Florentino Perez holds Rodriguez in the highest regard, and would be unwilling to part company with the Colombian.

The club president has made his feelings clear to manager Zinedine Zidane, with an approach from Chelsea for James previously blocked.

With Rodriguez looking likely to remain a Galactico, Isco's time at Madrid appears to be nearing its conclusion, with Tottenham monitoring the Spaniard's situation closely.

Mauricio Pochettino's playing style is suited to that of Isco's, with the Spaniardcapable of the high press demanded by the Spurs boss.

The diminutive playmaker featured 31 times last season for Los Blancos, but started just 21 of those games. The season marked Isco's fewest amount of starts since joining the club from Malaga for £25m in 2013.

Whilst Chelsea are also keeping an eye on proceedings, White Hart Lane has emerged as the likely destination for the 24-year-old as the lure of Champions League football can be offered as a bargaining tool bythe north London club after their impressive 2015-16 season.

Tottenham will look to secure Isco for the upcoming season on loan before moving to complete his signing on a permanent deal at a later stage.
