Turkey Captain Happy to Stay at Barcelona Despite Interest From Chinese Super League Clubs

Published on: 29 December 2016

Arda Turan has insisted he is "happy" at Barcelona, despite reported interest from clubs in the Chinese Super League.

The Barca winger has been in sensational form for the La Liga giants this term, with an impressive haul of 11 goals and 7 assists in just 19 appearances for Luis Enrique's men. Despite his terrific performances, however, Turan has been linked with following a number of other high-profile names in moving to China's lucrative Super League.

Turan has now moved to dismiss any notion of him upping sticks from the Camp Nou, and claimed that he is ready to see out the remainder of his current contract, which runs out in June 2020, with the reigning Spanish top flight champions.

He told Turkish TV station NTV Spor (via ESPN): "I read about the offers from China from the papers. It's how these things work. Clubs might be talking.

"I am very happy in Barcelona. I have a contract until the age of 33. I am in the greatest club of the world. What more can I say?

"I believe I am an important piece in Barcelona's squad. I try to do my best. I think my performance is the proof of it."

Beijing Guoan and Guangzhou Evergrande were reported to have made offers of around 40m euros (£34m) to Barcelona for the 29-year-old, with an alleged 15m-a-year contract (£12.8m) on the table for Turan to sign. Those rumours appear to have now been put to bed by Turan after his latest comments, with the interest from overseas a far cry from the struggles he faced during his first few months with Barcelona.

Turan had completed a £30m move to Barca from La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2015 but, thanks to a transfer embargo placed upon the club, was unable to play for his new side until January 2016 after FIFA had imposed the sanctions on Barcelona for breaching rules over the signing of underage players.

The Turkey international has since gone on to feature 44 times for the Catalan outfit, scoring 13 goals and registering 11 assists.
