Twitter Explodes After Jose's Nightmare Return to Stamford Bridge Ends in 4-0 Defeat

Published on: 22 October 2016

Jose Mourinho's face said it all.

A rather gaunt, bewildered Manchester United manager looked on from a technical area just feet away from where he used to be adored by the Stamford Bridge faithful, watching his side being ruthlessly dismantled by his former employers.

As far as returning to former clubs go, this was one of the worst imaginable for Mourinho. United had managed to keep Jurgen Klopp's attack-happy Liverpool in check for 90 minutes, but it took a mere 30 seconds for Pedro to capitalise on slack defending from Daley Blind, rounding David de Gea to set Chelsea on their way to easily the most commanding and immensely satisfying triumph of Antonio Conte's reign.

As you'd expect, social media had a field day. United supporters are warned to steer clear of their Twitter feeds but, for the rest, it made for some amusing Sunday afternoon scrolling.

Chris Smalling's been at fault for all 4 of the goals. FOUR. Outrageous.

So, there you go. United lost. Chris Smalling lost all knowledge of defending. Pogba lost, well, pretty much every ball he contested on the pitch.

The post-match assessments will be beyond grim for United's back four, but praise has to be afforded to Conte and his players, who were excellent literally from start to finish - and blew their opponents away.
