U-23 Afcon: Black Meteors need to avoid mistakes against South Africa- Coach Ibrahim Tanko

Ghana U-23 head coach Ibrahim Tanko has urged his team to avoid mistakes against South Africa in the third and fourth place playoff at the on-going Africa U-23 Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Black Meteors failed to book an automatic qualification to Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games after suffering a 4-2 penalty defeat (2-2 full time) to Côte d'Ivoire in the semi-finals on Tuesday.

Ghana will now play South Africa in the third place playoff on Friday afternoon at the Cairo International Stadium and a win over Bafana Bafana will help secure the final ticket to the global event in Tokyo.

"It’s a fact that we’ve conceded goals in this competition due to defensive errors but we always try to minimize these errors."

"We can better our chances if we make less errors. It’s difficult because we didn’t some of the players who played in the qualifiers here with us," coach Ibrahim Tanko said.

"We have a chance tomorrow and we will engage in some sessions to help us minimize mistakes in Friday’s match."

He added: "We need to avoid mistakes and if we do that we will have an upper hand in the game."

"Since Tuesday’s game we’ve worked hard on preparing and psyching them to play 100 % and secure the ticket to the Olympic Games on Friday."
