U-23 cup of nations: Black Meteors assistant coach Michael Osei eyes second leg victory against Algeria

Assistant coach for the Black Meteors of Ghana, Michael Osei has stressed that the only chance the team can qualify for the 2019 edition of the CAF U-23 Cup of Nations is by beating Algeria away and that is exactly what they are going to do.

The West African Country’s chances of making it to the continental tournament hang in the balance following a disappointing 1-1 draw with their North African Counterpart at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday afternoon.

The team is now set for a crucial return leg meeting at Algiers next week Tuesday to try and secure qualification.

Speaking in a post-match interview after the first leg, assistant coach for the Ghana team Michael Osei shared, “It was a very difficult game, we couldn’t play well in the first half and we got a chance to convert from the spot, but didn’t work for us”.

Nonetheless, he is confident the tie is not over and insist Ghana will surprise Algeria at their own backyard.

“The tie is not over. We will go there to do our best to see if we can qualify, qualification is our target so we are going to Algeria to do our best to qualify.

“We can’t qualify without winning so we are going there to surprise them and we are not afraid”, the former Kotoko gaffer noted.

The winner of the tie will play at the upcoming U-23 Championship slated for Egypt in November and will have the opportunity of fighting for qualification to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
