U23 AFCON: Ivorian captain set to miss Ghana clash in semi-finals

Published on: 18 November 2019

Captain for the Cote d’Ivoire U-23 team, Ibrahim Sangare will miss the side’s semi-final match against their counterpart from Ghana at the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament tomorrow.

The Ivorians are hoping to upset the Black Meteors to ensure they get to the finals of the ongoing tournament to automatically secure qualification to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Ahead of the crucial match, however, the Elephants have been hit with a major blow with skipper Ibrahim Sangare called back to his French club Toulouse FC.

What that means is that the inspirational midfielder will miss the semi-final game against Ghana on Tuesday at the Cairo International Stadium.

The Meteors will hope they get an advantage from the situation to record the needed win that will see them book their ticket to the next edition of the Olympic Games.
