Ghanaian international Richmond Boakye featured for Red Star Belgrade as they booked qualification to the group stage of this year’s UEFA Champions League after beating Young Boys in the final qualifying round on Tuesday.
The Serbian giants have been playing in the playoffs in the last couple of months before being paired to face the Swiss Champions in the final round.
The first round of the crucial tie ended 2-2 last week when Red Star Belgrade played as the away team.
Needing a positive result at home to qualify, Richmond Boakye Yiadom and his side managed to hold their opponent to a 1-1 draw at the end of a pulsating encounter which proved to be enough at the end of the 90 minutes.
The results see Red Star emerging as 3-3 aggregate winners with an advantage on the away goal rule.
The highly-rated Ghanaian attacker lasted 62 minutes in the match before he was replaced by Portuguese international Fernandez Mendes.
The Serbian club will know their group stage opponent for this year’s Champions League on Thursday, August 29, 2019.
