Iker Casillas, who won the Champions League on three occasions during his time at Real Madrid, earns his place in goal after being selected for the Team of the Year on six occasions. His centre-backs are Barcelona legend Carlos Puyol, who was selected six times, and his former teammate Gerard Pique.

Bayern Munich'sPhilipp Lahm has been included on five occasions but missed out on selectionlast year, while Sergio Ramos, who has been instrumental in Real Madrid's last two Champions League victories, is also included.

Catalan legends Andres Iniesta and Xavi partner Liverpool great Steven Gerrard in a dreamy midfield selection with a total of 13 Team of the Year appearances. The forward line isn't half bad either, with former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry joining superstar duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi up front.

While there will always be a debate over who is the best player in the world, so far in their careers it is Ronaldo who has the edge in terms of Champions League Team of the Year appearances, with the Portugal international's sum of 10 greater than Messi's seven. Both players have appeared in the team for the past six years, and are expected to be included in the 2016 edition of the team.
