On Thursday, July 2, 2020, Uruguay took a trip down memory lane as they remembered that dramatic win against Ghana at the 2010 World Cup staged in South Africa.

Having progressed from their respective groups, the two countries from different parts of the world went head to head in the quarter-final stage at the Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg on the back of triumphs in the Round of 16.

A good start to the match saw the Black Stars of Ghana taking the lead through midfield powerhouse Sulley Muntari before a Diego Forlan goal from a direct free-kick leveled the score for the South American country.

With a one-all draw at full time, the game traveled to the extra time where all the drama unfolded.

Ghana was awarded a late penalty when Uruguayan striker Luiz Suarez handled the ball with his hand on the goal line. He was shown the red card but unfortunately for the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan squandered the resulting penalty kick.

With the game going to the penalty shootout to decide the winner, it was Uruguay that came out tops, breaking the hearts of Ghanaians and the entire continent.

Marking exactly 10 years after that match, Uruguay decided to remember that miraculous win yesterday.
