Valencia Weighing Up £40m Bid for Former Manchester United Striker Javier Hernandez

Valencia are prepared to make former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez their record signing in January, according to Spanish newspaperAS.

The Mexican forward, currently with Bayer Leverkusen, is currently at the top of Valencia chairman Peter Lim's plans to strengthen the side who are languishing down at 18th in the La Liga table, having sacked manager Pako Ayestaran in September.

According to the report, Valencia are poised to spring for Chicarito in January and are willing to trigger the 28-year-old's buy-out clause of £40m.

Convincing Hernandez, who has netted an impressive 22 times in 33 games for the Bundesliga side, to leave Germany for the Mestalla may be a tricky proposition. Barring a miracle, Valencia will not be in a position to offer Hernandez Champions League football and it may be a deal-breaker for a player who is settled in Germany.

Hernandez is under contract at the BayArena until 2018 and recently said moving to Leverkusen has put his career back on track after being deemed surplus to requirements at United.

Javier Hernandez has scored 5 goals in his last 3 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen across all competitions.

That was the most important thing for me ” to have a lot of minutes, the striker told The Washington Post during a recent interview. Then the goals were going to come sooner rather than later.

"Germany is good for me."

Hernandez, as previously mentioned, has consistently found the net for Leverkusen, scoring 26 times in all competitions last season and carrying that form into this season, scoring seven times in eight appearances already.
