Versatility can be a hindrance says Bournemouth defender Ake

Published on: 10 July 2017

New Bournemouth signing Nathan Ake has explained how being able to play in more than one position could prove to be a deterrent to development.

One of Ake's main attributes is his versatility, as he is capable of playing at centre-back, defensive midfield, left-back or even as a left-wing back.

However, the 22-year old has been promised by manager Eddie Howe that he will be playing as a central defender at Bournemouth.

Asked by the Daily Echo whether he felt his versatility had hindered him, Ake replied: "Yes, maybe. It's difficult. Before I came here last season, my preferred position was as a six, holding. I came here as that.

"There are pluses and minuses. Sometimes you want to focus on one position and specialize in this position.

"But, on the other hand, it is also good for a manager to have someone who can play in more than one position and it can be good for you as well."
