Veteran coach J. E Sarpong has showered praises on referee Samuel Sukah for his performance in the Sunday’s Super Clash between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium.

A section of the Asante Kotoko supporters left the Accra Sports Stadium disappointed by referee Samuel Sukah’s performance in their 1-0 defeat to arch-rivals Hearts of Oak after he awarded a late penalty to the home side which was duly converted by defender Vincent Atinga. However, J. E Sarpong believes the outing of the referee on day was superb and says the fans should not castigate the official but rather their technical bench and the player who caused the penalty.

“It was a legitimate call by the referee and I wouldn’t want anybody to talk about that decision, I’ll give him about 80 to 90% performance rate because he controlled his two assistants very well, and all his calls were spot on,” Sarpong told reporters.

“Kotoko supporters should rather blame their technical bench for poor tactical display and also the defender who unnecessarily slid on the ground whiles he could have stood and stop ball."

Asante Kotoko maintain their second spot on the league with 17 points but inferior goal difference to leaders Aduana Stars after eight matches whiles Hearts of Oak climb to fifth position with 12 points.
