Veteran coach JE Sarpong calls for Otto Addo to address Black Stars' defensive and midfield issues

Veteran coach JE Sarpong has urged Black Stars coach Otto Addo to take a closer look at the team's central defensive pairing and midfield areas, following Ghana's 4-3 victory over the Central African Republic in Kumasi.

Sarpong, who was reacting to Ghana's conceding of three goals in the match, expressed his concerns about the team's defensive setup and the lack of understanding between the central defensive pair.

"The areas that are worrying us are the defensive setup. We seem to give away balls we don't have to. There is no perfect understanding between the central pair, and in football or sports, communication is very key. When you are playing football, you have to communicate a lot. So, Otto has to look at it," Sarpong told Peace FM as monitored by Footballghana.com

The veteran coach also criticized the team's midfielders for not working hard enough and failing to control the game.

"Also, our midfielders look like they are not working hard and putting themselves into games like we know them abroad. You mention Parey, you mention Kudus, if you mention Salis, they can't hold together the midfield. So, the early stages of the first half, we don't know what to do, and when we meet a team who is potent in the first half, if they are able to score 3, then we are out. So, these areas, we have to build that place up," he added.
