VIDEO: Burnley's Tom Heaton Puts Himself Forward for Save of the Season Against Southampton

Published on: 16 October 2016

With all the brilliant goals that have been flying in this season, goalkeepers have so far had a quiet time on the news front. In fairness, with the quality strikers on show in the Premier League, it has been hard for many keepers to show off what they can do between the sticks.

That all changed over the weekend however, when Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton made an outstanding save to deny Southampton striker Charlie Austin.

The forward's diving header appeared destined for the bottom let hand corner until Heaton flung himself at across his goal-line and somehow clawed the ball around the post.

Sadly for Heaton, he was unable to deny Charlie Austin for the whole game as the in-form striker grabbed a brace to help the Saints to a deserved 3-1 victory.

This saveofthe season contender will at least raise Heaton's profile even further and help keep his place in future England squads.

If he can carry on making saves like this, he will certainly provide Joe Hart with stiff competition for the starting position in goal for the national side and could find himself the number one choice in the future.
