Pol was able to resume the match against Universidad Catolica, but did not escape sanction as he was arrested by police after the game.

Cantona's kick out at Crystal Palace fan Matthew Simmonssaw him banned from football for nine months, with his two week prison sentence eventually reduced to 120 hours ofcommunity service, but it remains to be seen how severe Pol's punishment will be.

Luis Suarez and Rio Ferdinand are other high-profile names who have served lengthy bans - Suarez for biting Georgio Chiellini, his third biting offence on record, and Ferdinand missed eight months of actionfor missing a drugs test, back in 2006.

Footage of Pol's arrest also emerged on social media last night, and it remains to be seen whether his not being such a high profile name will count for or against him.

It is unlikely that he has the kind offame which might see him being 'made an example of', but similarly, those who are super-famous tend to be given leaner sentences, like some may say Cantona did.
