Berekum Chelsea secured a 3-0 victory against the current titleholders, Asante Kotoko, at the Golden City Park in Berekum on Friday afternon.
Although the first half of the game remained goalless, Chelsea had the upper hand in the gameplay. Asante Kotoko had a golden opportunity to score in the 12th minute when Georges Mfegue connected with a cross from Isaac Oppong. However, he failed to keep his shot down and missed the chance.
The second half started with Berekum Chelsea coming out stronger, and they broke the deadlock in the 49th minute when Kalo Outtara headed in a cross from Collins Armeyaw.
The home team continued to control the game and doubled their lead in the 63rd minute when Outtara scored another header from a precise cross delivered by Armeyaw.
Asante Kotoko struggled to create any significant chances in the game, and Berekum Chelsea took advantage of their weak defense to score their third goal in the 83rd minute. Substitute Ansu Kofi Patrick was quick to react to a rebound after Ibrabim Danlad failed to grab an effort from Yaw Dankwa, sealing a comprehensive victory for the home team.
With this result, Berekum Chelsea remains in the 8th position with 37 points from 26 games, while Asante Kotoko is in the 4th position with 39 points, 5 points behind the current league leaders, Aduana.
