Ghanaian champions Medeama succumbed to a 3-0 loss against Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly SC in their inaugural Group D clash of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League on Saturday evening at the Al-Salam Stadium.
The first half was a closely contested match, with Medeama's resilient efforts successfully maintaining a level score during the first half. However, the Yellow and Mauves struggled in the second half in Cairo.
Al Ahly seized the lead in the 66th minute, courtesy of Kahraba's well-executed header from the center of the box, assisted by Emam Ashour following a corner.
Al Ahly further solidified their advantage with a 2-0 lead in the 75th minute, thanks to Hussein El Shahat's right-footed shot from a challenging angle on the left, expertly finding the center of the goal.
The home side secured a convincing 3-0 victory in the 88th minute, as Salah Mohsen's header from the center of the box hit the bottom right corner. Mohamed Magdi played a pivotal role, providing the assist with a cross following a swift counterattack.
