Ghanaian International Mubarak Wakaso could not hold down his tears following the Black Stars exit from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament after they were defeated 5-4 on penalties by Tunisia.
The player emerged as man of the match after the game but speaking to CAF media upon receiving his award, he could not hold back his tears.
He shared, “We knew we were going to face a difficult opponent. I think what happened is part of the game. I am proud of my guys. I’m proud of Ghanaians and I am proud of my family”.
“I can’t say much, but all I will say is I am still Ghanaian, and I am proud of myself and my nation”.
“I will like to thank everyone who came here to support us. I know in my heart, without them we cannot be where we are. So I will keep on thanking them. We will keep doing our best for the nation. Thank you”.
Ghana played a one-all draw with Tunisia at the end of 90 minutes plus extra time. A 73rd-minute goal from Taha Khenissi was canceled by an own goal by Rami Bedoui to force the match into extra time.
Ghana went on to lose the shootout after new boy Caleb Ekuban failed to convert his kick.
