Ghanaian international Thomas Partey has gotten the internet buzzing after scoring with a sensational effort in Atletico Madrid’s stalemate against Valencia on Friday night.
The defensive midfielder was handed a starting role by manager Diego Simeone when his team traveled to the Mestalla to take on Valencia on Match Week 24 of the Spanish La Liga.
In a game that produced four goals on top of a pulsating encounter between the two teams, Marcos Llorente opened the scoring for the away team after 14 minutes of action.
Five minutes to end the first half, Gabriel Paulista got his name on the scoresheet to draw level for Valencia. Three minutes after that equalizer, Thomas Partey popped up with yet another thunderbolt strike.
He recovered possession some meters after the centre circle before bursting through midfield. Now on the edge of the Valencia 18-area, the Ghanaian sent an unstoppable shot into the back of the net to restore parity for the Rojiblancos.
An equalizer from Geoffrey Kondogbia in the second half, however, denied Atletico Madrid what would have been an important win in their quest to stay in the top-four.
