Vietnam, Myanmar continue to rule

Published on: 05 July 2018

Vietnam comfortably defeated Singapore 10-0 while Myanmar overcame Indonesia 6-1.

Following their big win over Indonesia two days ago, Vietnam started brightly and didn't take long to pull ahead against Singapore, with Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang scoring in the 12th minute.

Hoang Thi Loan doubled Vietnam’s advantage in the 27th minute from close range and Singapore then conceded a penalty in the 31st minute after Thuy Hang was brought down inside the box. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung made no mistake from the spot.

Two minutes later, Tuyet Dung headed in the fourth goal and Thuy Hang further widened their lead with a 40th minute effort.

“The target was just for the three points, not the score line,” said Vietnam head coach Mai Duc Chung afterwards.

“We fielded some younger players in the match and I thought that they played well.”

Nguyen Thi Van nailed a hat-trick (54th, 65th and 77th minutes) after the break as Thuy Hang then completed her own hat-trick in the 69th.

Pham Hoang Quynh’s goal in the 62nd minute completed the win as Vietnam remained perched at the top of the standings, ahead of Myanmar on goal difference.

Vietnam will take on the Philippines on Saturday while Myanmar will face Singapore.

Myanmar, despite taking a fourth minute lead through Win Theingi Tun, endured some nervy moments before defeating Indonesia.

“There’s still this issue with nerves early in the game,” said Myanmar head coach Win Thu Moe.

“Yes we improved slowly in the game but we need to be better the next time round.”

Theingi Tun added the second goal in the 12th minute before Thandar Moe (24th) made it 3-0 just before the break.

Theingi Tun sealed her hat-trick with efforts in the 56th and 65th minutes and July Kyaw widened the lead seven minutes from the end after Yudith Herlina Sada had narrowed the deficit in the 66th.
