New AC Milan head coach Vincenzo Montella has outlined the minimum requirement for theRossoneri this season, saying the club must qualify for the Europa League.

Montella takes the reigns at the San Siro to become Milan's fifth managerial appointment in just two years.

The club has fallen on hard times recently with a succession of 8th, 10th and 7th place finishes in Serie A meaning a third season in a row without European football.

And Montella, who arrives after one season at Sampdoria, believes that it'sunacceptable a club with the stature of AC Milan has that unwanted recordhanging over its head.

According toForza Italian Football, the 42-year-old said:It is unacceptable that Milan have not been in European competition for three years.

This is our goal, it is a target to put down and I will do my best to achieve it.We have to get back into Europe through the model requested by the club.

Our minimum target is the Europa League.

Montella rose to prominence during a three-year spell at Fiorentina, where he guided the club to three successive fourth-place finishes and a Coppa Italia final and the semi finals of the Europa League in 2015.

Montella was sacked as Viola manager with the club citinga lack of commitment to the club as the cause of his dismissal.

As a player, the Italian enjoyed a 10-year spell at Roma scoring 84 goals in 192 Serie A games, either side of stints at Sampdoriaand a loan spell at Fulham.
