The 17-year-old has been handed a three-week opportunity to impress coaches of Rio Ave ahead of the January transfer window.

Ashimeru, who turns 18 this month, is one of Ghana highly-rated talented having excelled in the Ghana top-flight this season for WAFA.

"I just completed a very good season with my club WAFA. It was my first time playing at the highest level in Ghana (the FCPPL). It was a challenging one because I had not played even in the second division before but things generally went well for me," he told SuperSport.

"Now I have been given a shot at Rio Ave, to express myself here and hopefully earn a deal. I'm here to give my hest because I wil want to stay and get into the first team," Ashimeru added.

The youngster will be handed a deal to join his compatriot Alhassan Wakaso at the club if he impresses during his three-week stay.

Ashimeru was one of the revelations of the just ended First Capital Plus Premier League where he featured in 25 games and scored twice for academy side WAFA SC.
