West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) SC U-17 have failed to qualify to the final of the 2018 Tournoi International du District Autonome d'Abidjan following defeat to Derby Football Académie on Sunday.

The Ghana Premier League youth side missed out on a ticket after losing 5-4 on penalties to the Malian side.

The pair played out a goalless draw in regulation time in a highly competitive match.

Derby Academie topped Group C while WAFA finished Group A leaders in the 12-team tournament.

The match was played at the Stade Robert Champroux de Marcory.

Head coach Sadiq Abubakar was looking to win another major tournament after leading the youngsters to annex the 2018 Next Generation Trophy in Austria.

The tournament seeks to unearth talents for foreign scouts and club as various teams from the sub-region battle for supremacy.

Aside the idea of bringing out talents, the winner will also take home a glittering trophy and an unspecified amount of money.
