WAFU U-17 Zone B Qualifiers: Ghana expected back home on Sunday

Published on: 16 September 2018

The Black Starlets of Ghana is expected back in the country on Sunday after their defeat to Nigeria in the finals of the WAFU U-17 Zone B tournament in Niger.

Ghana lost in the penalty shootouts to their West African neighbours in the finals played on Saturday.

This was after the game had ended 1-1 in regulation time.

This means Ghana will not be at the 2019 U-17 Africa Cup finals to be staged in Tanzania.

It also means the Black Starlets have also lost a chance to play at the World Cup.

The defeated Starlets will return home on Sunday morning following this major disappointment.

This failure threatens to curtail Ghana’s juvenile development as qualification to major tournaments forms an integral part of development.
