The Ghana Football Association has accused former Black Starlets head coach, Laryea Kingston, of inappropriate behavior after his team was kicked out of the ongoing 2024 WAFU B U17 Cup of Nations.

Kingston, a former Black Stars winger, stepped down from his position as head coach after the Black Starlets were knocked out of the competition in Accra at the semifinal stage, suffering a 2-1 defeat to Burkina Faso due to defensive lapses. The match took place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

During his post-match press conference, Kingston revealed his decision to resign, citing it as a choice made months prior.

However, the GFA has levied accusations against him, stating that his resignation was accompanied by inappropriate language directed towards both players and coaching staff.

The statement read, “Laryea Kingston's decision has been supported by his subsequent actions. Coach Kingston announced to the players and the coaching staff that he has resigned whilst using inappropriate language.”

In the wake of Kingston's departure, his assistant coaches, Jacob Nettey and Nana Agyemang, will assume control of the Black Starlets for their upcoming 2024 WAFU U17 Cup of Nations third-place playoff match against Nigeria on Tuesday.

The loss to Burkina Faso not only signifies the end of Ghana's campaign in the tournament but also marks their failure to qualify for the U17 AFCON for a third consecutive time.
