The Ghana U-17 male national team has drawn 1-1 with their Nigeria counterpart in their first match of this year’s WAFU Zone B U-17 Cup of Nations tournament.

Nicknamed the Black Starlets, the team locked horns with the opponent today to open their campaign at the tournament being hosted in Togo.

Despite both teams playing very well in the first half, neither side could find the back of the net and had to settle for a draw at the break.

In the second half, Nigeria played some delightful football in the early parts but the Black Starlets managed to keep them out.

In the 83rd minute, however, they were awarded a penalty kick with Joseph Arumala scoring to give the team the lead.

Now trailing, the Ghana team upped their game in search of an equalizer to draw level. Fortunately, their efforts paid off in the final minutes of the match when Abdul Fatawu Issahaku also scored from the spot.

The draw sees the Black Starlets keeping the hope of advancing to the knockout stage of the competition alive. They will next play against Cote d’Ivoire.
