Wanderers sign midfielder Majewski

Polish midfielder Radoslaw Majewski has become Western Sydney Wanderers' third import signing ahead of the new A-League season.

The former Nottingham Forest player is seen as a direct replacement for Alexander Baumjohan, who was released by the club despite leading the league for chances created last season.

I spoke with the coach and I am very excited about his way of work.

Majewski played more than 160 games over six years with Forest, and also had a loan stint at Huddersfield Town.

After his time in England he spent a season in Greece with Veria before returning to Poland - first to Lech Poznan and then moving to Pogon Szczecin last season.

Majewski, who has played nine times for Poland, has signed a one-year deal with Wanderers and is looking forward to playing under Markus Babbel.

The 32-year-old said: "I spoke with the coach and I am very excited about his way of work."

Majewski, who could make his debut in the friendly against Leeds United on 20th July, becomes the fourth signing overall for Wanderers since the end of last season.

Babbel has brought in defender Daniel Georgievski from Newcastle Jets and has signed Swiss pair Pirmin Schwegler and Daniel Lopar on free transfers.

Midfielder Schwegler arrives after leaving Hannover 96 while keeper Daniel Lopar was previously with St Gallen.

German defender Patrick Ziegler also takes up an import slot but is awaiting paperwork for his Australian citizenship, which could see him counted as a local player if it arrives in time.

Wanderers have seen 11 players depart since the end of last season, including Spanish pair Oriol Riera and Raul Llorente.

Western Sydney are 12/1 to win the 2020 Grand Final.

Meanwhile, Australia are 1/12 to win their next game at the Women's World Cup against Jamaica, who are 28/1 with the draw 8/1.
