Watford Boss Walter Mazzarri Unhappy With Manner of Defeat Against Liverpool

Published on: 06 November 2016

Watford manager Walter Mazzarri admitted that he was disappointed with the manner of his side's defeat against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Hornets were comprehensively outplayed throughout the match, and ended up conceding six goals at Anfield against Jurgen Klopp's side, with Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Emre Can and Georginio Wijnaldum all getting on the scoresheet.

Daryl Janmaat did bag a consolation for Mazzarri's side, but it was nowhere nearenough as Watford fell to their first league defeat since September.

Speaking toBBC Sportafter the game, Mazzarri conceded it is acceptable to lose at Anfield, but the manner of the defeat disappointed him.

"You can lose at the home of Liverpool but we should not have lost like that," Mazzarri claimed.

"It has been a lesson for the future. This game has taught me many things, like the 2-0 defeat by Burnley.

"We will get better for next time and we will see a different performance after the international break."

Watford were dealt a blow when goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes was substituted due to injury just after the half-hour mark, with replacement goalie Costel Pantilimon faring little better in attempting to keep out Liverpool's potent attack.

Speaking about Gomes', Mazzarri admitted he did not know the full extent of the injury or how long he would be absent from Watford's starting eleven for.

"It is his knee, but I am not sure yet [how serious]. I am not sure if it's a twist or just a knock."

Watford will hope to return to winning ways after the international break when they take on Leicester later in November.
