"We are in result business" - Ghana deputy coach George Boateng warns new Aston Villa manager Unai Emery

Black Stars assistant coach George Boateng says Unai Emery will have to prove to the fans and the club that he can bring Aston Villa back to winning ways.

Emery, 50, who had been in charge of Spanish club Villarreal replaces Steven Gerrard after poor start to the season.

He joined the Spanish side in 2020 and led them to Europa League success in the 2020-21 season, beating Manchester United in the final.

"Basically, I don't think he might think he has something to prove but we are in a result business and everybody is well aware of the that and Unai Emery is aware of that and he knows he has to get results at Aston Villa to be able to maintain his job really," former Aston Villa U-23 said in an interview on Sky Sports.

"Maybe not so much proving that to everybody that he is a good manager. He's proven that to the fans and club that he can produce result and at the end that's all it's about."

He added, "I do believe that he's a good signing and I think that with the players he's got and the squad he's got he can do something with it."

"He is somebody that managed Villarreal and Sevilla to get European Cup finals. We all know that Villa has won the cup before and I think the challenge for him and his staff will be, will it be possible to repeat that with Aston Villa."

George Boateng left his role as manager of Aston Villa’s U-23 side ‘to concentrate on his role’ with the Ghana national team ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
