We are ready for AFCON 2019 – Asamoah Gyan

General Captain for the Black Stars of Ghana, Asamoah Gyan has assured that all 23 players in camp are ready for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament set to start in Egypt next week.

Africa is just 6 days away from the start of the biggest tournament on the continent. Having expanded the tournament from 16 to 24 nations, it promises to be tougher and much more exciting this time around.

Ghana will be chasing a 5th AFCON title when they battle the rest of Africa in the tourney. In a bid to get the team ready for what lies ahead, head coach James Kwesi Appiah and his team engaged South Africa in a friendly match today.

Unfortunately for the side, they only had to settle for a goalless draw as they wrapped up the warm-up games.

Speaking to Journalists after the match, Asamoah Gyan indicated that he is happy there is no injury situation in camp whiles emphasizing that the players are ready for the tourney.

“The tournament itself is a different ball game together, so we happy there is no injury in camp and we will be going to Egypt with all the players ready for the tournament”, the Kayserispor attacker shared.

He continued, “We have done well. Training has not been easy, we have gone through some drills behind the scenes that the camera didn’t capture and so we know the kind of training that we have done and hopefully, we will be ready for the tournament”.

Ahead of the prestigious tournament, Ghana has been drawn in Group F and will be competing for qualification into the knockout stage against Benin, Guinea Bissau, and defending Champions Cameroon.
