We are taking steps to ensure our security in Cote d’Ivoire – Kotoko CEO ahead of FC San Pedro clash

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, George Amoako has revealed that arrangements are being made to guarantee the security of the team when they travel to Cote d’Ivoire for the second leg of the final playoff round to the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors hosted its Ivorian counterpart over the past weekend and managed to win by a goal to nil. The first half of that game was played on Sunday but had to be finished on Monday following heavy rainfall.

It took a 95th-minute penalty to see Kotoko winning the match after they had struggled to find a way past a determined and quality FC San Pedro side.

The players of the away side were not pleased with how South African referee Eugene Indluli awarded the penalty to the host and expressed uncontrollable anger. At a point, they chased the referee in an attempt to question and beat him.

That incident has subsequently informed Kotoko to be cautious as they prepare to depart Ghana for Cote d’Ivoire this weekend for the return leg of the fixture.

Speaking in a post-match interview, George Amoako says management will take the necessary steps to ensure the team is protected when they enter the neighboring country.

“They came here with a strategy intending to provoke us for us to retaliate in a way that they will have a cause to complain. We neither maltreated them nor did anything that could be described as such.”

“They rather misbehaved. However, we are taking steps to ensure that there will be adequate security when we play in Abidjan”, the club CEO said.

Kotoko will leave Ghana tomorrow ahead of the crucial game with FC San Pedro which has been scheduled for Sunday, November 3, 2019.
