We had no business reappointing Milovan Rajevac - Former GFA veep George Afriyie

Former Ghana Football Association [GFA] vice president, George Afriyie has criticized the decision to reappoint Milovan Rajevac as the head coach of the Black Stars.

The Serbian gaffer having worked from 2008 to 2010 left the shores of the West African country.

In his first stint, Milovan led the Black Stars to the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] finals and the quarterfinal of the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa.

However, after CK Akonnor who replaced Kwesi Appiah on a two-year deal in 2020 was sacked, the Ghana Football Association [GFA] settled on the 63-year-old to take over the senior national team.

The country's football governing body charged the head trainer to win the 33rd edition of the AFCON in Cameroon.

However, the Black Stars for the first time in 2006 exited the tournament at the group phase of the tournament.

Milovan Rajevac and his charges were winless after three games played and finished on the 4th position with just a point.

But Mr Afriyie, who is a former Black Stars management committee chairman after the team's exit says the decision to rehire Rajevac was needless.

According to him, he was shocked for a trainer who rejected a $50k a decade ago now agreed to return to accept a $30k offer.

"We had no business hiring Milovan Rajevac," he told Accra based Asaase Radio.

"Why would a coach who rejected over $50k now show up over a decade later and agree to take less than he was previously paid," he added.

Ghana will be hoping to end their AFCON trophy drought in Ivory Coast.
