West Brom defender Gibbs: I needed change after Arsenal

Published on: 05 October 2017

West Bromwich Albion defender Kieran Gibbs has revealed that he left boyhood club Arsenal this summer for a change in environment.

Gibbs left Arsenal for Albion during the summer and the 27-year-old has now explained that he chose to move to the Midlands in order to experience a change in scenery.

Gibbs said: "I think a fee had been agreed. Over the next couple of days if there wasn't any issues it looked likely I would have signed for them. I'm still not quite sure what really happened. The (Watford) training ground is literally right next door.

"It would have been more convenient, but I don't think it would have been the change that I needed completely, in terms of even things like route to work.

"When you do something for over ten years sometimes you feel like you need change. Even moving from home where I can get my head down and focus can only help me.
