West Brom Defender Prepared to Wait for Chance to Impress and Force His Way Back Into the Team

West Brom's veteran defender Jonas Olsson is willing to wait for his opportunity to get back into the starting XI, and is not frustrated at his lack of opportunities at the Baggies.

The 33-year-old has been short of first team minutes this season, having been a mainstay for a number of years at The Hawthorns.

He did feature from the start in West Brom's 2-1 defeat at Anfield last weekend in the absence of the suspended Jonny Evans. But the Swede is expected to return to the bench with Evans available again for the visit of league-leaders Manchester City.

Before the match away at Liverpool, Olsson's only first team start came in the EFL Cup back in August against Northampton Town.

Aside from that, he has played for the Baggies' under-23s, but hasnot managed another appearance from the start for the first team.

But the long-serving centre half was pleased to be backplaying again against Liverpool, and also enjoyed featuring alongside his regular defensive partner Gareth McAuley.

"I just have to try my best when called upon," Olsson toldBBC WM 95.6.

"It's nice to play with Gareth. We've been playing together for a while so we know each other," Olsson said.

"Obviously he's been playing with Jonny, who's been doing really well since he came from Manchester United.

"It's tough competition for me - I've been out of the team for a good month and a half. But I just have to train well - hopefully me and Gareth have a few more games left in us."
