West Ham Set Sights on Inter Captain Mauro Icardi in Light of Striker's Fallout With Ultras

West Ham United have set their sights on Inter Milan's temperamentalcaptain Mauro Icardi as a potential January signing, according to a report in theDaily Star.

The Hammers are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements with summer-signing Simone Zaza failing to make the desired impact in east-London after eight games.

And £25m-rated Icardi, who has recently fallen out with Inter's ultras, could well be the man to fit the bill due to his souring relations with fans at the San Siro.

The Argentine starlet infuriated supporters by writing that he would 'bring 100 criminals from Argentina who will kill them', in reference to the ultras.

His relationship with fans worsened last weekend as he missed a penalty in-front of the home support, who proceeded to cheer and celebrate as Icardi looked desolate.

The ultras also went outside the 23-year-old's home, holding the banner 'We're here. When your Argentine friends arrive, you will warn us or do it like a coward?'

And although the striker has since apologised and taken the comments out of his autobiography, he is still disliked in Milan and could well be forced out of the club in January.

West Ham co-owners David Sullivan and David Goldwill be purring at the chance to buy Icardi after his summer-pursuit of a 'marquee-signing' failed with Carlos Bacca and Alexandre Lacazette rejecting the Hammers.

Slaven Bilic's side recorded back-to-back wins for the first time since April this weekend after beating Sunderland 1-0, but their lack of firepower up-front, combined with Andy Carroll's mystery injury, has led to anxiety among the London Stadium faithful, who are struggling to see where the goals will come from this season.
