When will the 10 multipurpose stadia be completed?

The ten multipurpose stadia were a sports infrastructure project that was supposed to augment the existing ones dotted across Ghana.

After the sod-cutting ceremony in the first term of the government in February 2018 by the then Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah to date none of the ten has been completed.

The sports community in Ghana enthusiastically supported the development of ten multipurpose stadia across the country. The hope that the facilities will foster sporting potential and promote sports advancement in Ghana has been deflated.

There is so much pressure on the existing stadia in Ghana. For example during the Christmas festivities last year Accra Sports Stadium was used for musical concerts.

Clubs began scrambling to look for venues to honour their games. After the shows, the pitch was unplayable, and serious maintenance work had to be done.

The pressure on Accra Sports Stadium alone is huge, clubs from the Ghana Premier League, Division One, and Women's Premier League call the Accra-based stadium home.

It has been one assurance after another from Sports Minister Hon. Mustapha Ussif but the stadia at various stages of completion has still not been completed.

Speaking to Asempa FM's 'Ekosii Sen' program, the Youth and Sports Minister Hon Mustapha Ussif said, “My predecessor did very well to supervise the start of these programs and I am also committed to ensuring that they are completed.

“I have met the contractors and the consultants to listen to their challenges and they will soon go back to the site.

He reiterated: “I can assure you and all Ghanaians that we will complete these works so that they can be used for their intended purpose.”

Last year at GFA's Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer of Excellence at Prampram, the Sports Minister said, “Government remains committed to the development of sports infrastructure which includes the construction of 10 multipurpose stadia across the country and the astroturf across the country."

Football-loving Ghanaians who have had enough of the assurances are asking when the 10 multipurpose stadia will be completed.
