Black Meteors winger Evans Mensah has shared his delight after receiving the ‘Man of the Match’ accolade in Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Cameroon in the CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The two top teams played their first game in this year’s edition of the tournament which is featuring 8 nations in Egypt.
In what was the second Group A match on Friday night, both sides were forced to share the spoils when Franck Evina’s goal for Cameroon was canceled by a strike from Ghanaian defender Habib Mohammed.
At the end of a tough but entertaining match, nimble-footed Evans Mensah who impressed on the right flanks for the Black Meteors was named the ‘Man of the Match’.
In a Tweet from the player, he has shared his delight while dedicating the accolade to Ghanaians for their support.
"Happy to win the man of the match award in our group A opening game against Cameroon. I dedicate this award to all Ghanaians for their massive support”, the post read.
Mensah who plays his club football for HJK Helsinki will be key for Ghana throughout the U-23 AFCON as they seek qualification to the 2020 Olympic Games which will be staged in Tokyo, Japan.
