Winter: Inter need results away to Barcelona and Tottenham

With Inter taking on both Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur, Aaron Winter believes the Nerazzurri have to take advantage of their home games if they are to have any hope of making it out of Group B.

The Ajax youth coach does believe that Inter have what it takes to gain a maximum six points against the third team in the the group, PSV Eindhoven.

“Inter have fought against all very strong teams with great champions,” Winter told the press. “They need to get points at home to Barcelona and Tottenham, because the away games will be very difficult.

“If you look at the way Tottenham play football, they are very offensive and they are difficult to beat. So if they get win at home and can get a couple of draws away then they can get through.

“However, against PSV Inter can win both home and away. If you look at PSV they are a young team without much experience in the competition, so I think Inter should win both games.”

In terms of the other Italian sides, Winter feels Napoli have the toughest draw even with new coach Carlo Ancelotti Liverpool and PSG will be difficult to stop.

“I think the PSG will advance along with Liverpool,” Winter went on. “They [Liverpool]showed how good they are last season, and again the way the play football, so it seems like they will be the two safe qualifiers because they have players that are difficult to stop, even for Napoli.”

The conversation inevitably turned to Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Juventus and the impact he will have on Serie A.

“He is a champion and an example for every player,” Winter went on. “He still needs some time to adapt but he will score lots of goals in Serie A.”

When asked about Luka Modric winning the 2017/18 Player of the Year award, the former Inter man was clear in his thoughts.

“If you watched last season,” Winter continued. “It is the right thing. He is a great player and an example, the way he is playing. I’m a guy who likes football, and he is a pure footballer, the way he plays and shows his talents, so it is right he won the trophy.”
