Women’s WC: South Africa 0-4 Germany – Banyana Banyana fail to gain a single point as they bow out of tourney

The Banyana Banyan of South Africa has been eliminated from the Women’s World Cup in France following an embarrassing 4-0 loss to Germany on Monday afternoon at the Stade de la Mosson.

Prior to the match, South Africa had lost all two of their previous Group B games and in need of a convincing win to try and finish as one of the best 3rd best-placed teams which could have carried them into the knockout phase.

Unfortunately, the Banyana Banyana did not have the gas to go the extra mile and had to succumb to the Germans who appeared to be well oiled throughout the 90 minutes journey.

Midfielder Melanie Leupolz headed in winners opener from a corner kick on the 14th minute before goalkeeper Andile Dlamini made a mistake to hand Sara Dabritz an unmissable chance in front of an open net.

From there on it was all Germany who took advantage of their dominance to score two additional goals through veteran attacker Alexandra Popp, and Lina Magull

Having failed to get anything out of the match, Coach Desiree Ellis and her side have crushed out of the 2019 Women’s World Cup. They failed to gain a single point whiles finishing bottom of the Group B table.
