Las Palmas manager Quique Setién has stated that they are working on the fitness of Ghana midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng before he starts playing in pre-season friendly games.

The 29-year-old former AC Milan star was not involved as the Canary Islanders nicked a narrow 2-1 win over Portuguese side Maritimo in the 31st Maspalomas International Tournament on Friday.

Boateng was expected to debut for the club in the game but he conspicuously missed out of the game.

Setien has revealed the former Tottenham and Portsmouth star is in deficit of pre-season workout and insists he will not risk the marquee summer signing.

"We have to see how Prince [Kevin-Prince Boateng] is progressing in the work out. He is in deficit of workout and I won't take the unnecessary risk to play him," he told reporters after the game.
