Former English Premier League referee Mike Dean says a technical glitch was responsible for VAR failing to intervene and deny Cristiano Ronaldo a penalty against Ghana.

Referee Ismail Elfath pointed to the spot in the 63rd minute after Ronaldo was fouled by Ghana's Mohammed Salisu.

Replays suggested the 37-year-old was already heading towards the turf before he, himself, initiated contact with the Salisu.

"It’s scary, it is scary,’ Dean, now a dedicated VAR following his decision to retire from refereeing at the end of last season", Mike Dean told beIN Sport.

The defeat means Black Stars are bottom of Group H after Uruguay and South Korea played out a goalless draw earlier on Thursday.

The Black Stars will now switch their attention to their attention to the match against South Korea on Monday before taking on Uruguay on December 2 at the Education City stadium.
