St Gallen goalkeeper, Lawrence Ati Zigi is set to be Ghana's No.1 shot-stopper at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar following injuries to Richard Ofori and Jojo Wollacott, a close source has told Footballghana.com.

Ati Zigi has been a regular at St Gallen this season, making 14 appearances, keeping two clean sheets and conceding 21 goals.

Ofori and Wollacott have reportedly been ruled out of the tournament due to injuries and are expected to be omitted from the final squad of the Black Stars which will be announced on Monday, November 14, 2022.

Wollacot missed Charlton's 3-3 draw against Burton Albion on Saturday after injurying his finger in the warm up.

The injury is believed to be serious, hence ruling him out of the tournament.

Ofori was ruled out of Orlando Pirates' game against Kaizer Chiefs in the semi-final of the Carling Black Label Cup because of injury. He was dropped from Pirates' squad for the game.

Ofori and Wollacot were named in the 55-man provisional squad for the World Cup but will miss out on the final squad.

Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim is set to serve as Ati Zigi's back-up at the tournament.

Black Stars will open camp in Dubai on Monday to begin preparations for the tournament.

Black Stars have been drawn in Group H alongside Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.

Ghana will take on Portugal in their first game on November 24 before playing South Korea and Uruguay on November 28 and December 2 respectively.

Black Stars will play Switzerland in an International friendly on November 17, before travelling to Qatar for the World Cup.

Ghana secured a 4th FIFA World Cup tournament having participated in 2006, 2010, and 2014 in Germany, South Africa, and Brazil after drawing 1-1 against Nigeria in the return leg of the final play-offs at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja to seal qualification on the away goals rule.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup takes place between November 21 and December 18, 2022.

Only three sides from the continent have ever progressed to the quarter-finals; Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002, and Ghana in 2010.
