World Cup 2022: The game against Uruguay was very tough – Ghana defender Daniel Amartey

Published on: 05 December 2022

Ghana international, Daniel Amartey has taken comfort in the fact that Uruguay failed to advance to the Round 16 stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

According to the defender, the final Group H match against the Uruguayans was a very difficult one.

He said it took a great deal of effort to deny the South Americans the third goal that would have sent them to the next stage of the tournament.

"I just told my teammates that we need a goal now, but they need a goal now, so we have to defend for ourselves so that if we can't go, they don't go," Daniel Amartey said in a post-match interview after Ghana lost 2-0.

The centre-back added, "It was tough because you can see their centre-back; everybody comes (forward). Uruguay needed one goal to go through, and you can see we defend four against five or three against two, but we managed to defend."

With Ghana losing that final Group H match, the Black Stars also failed to advance to the Round 16 stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
