World Cup 2022: Tunisia bows out with win over defending champions France

Published on: 30 November 2022

Tunisia have booked an early flight back home after failing to advance to the knockout stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Carthage Eagles are one of five African countries that represented the continent at this year’s global showpiece.

Today, Tunisia locked horns with defending world champions France in the final Group D encounter of the tournament being hosted by Qatar.

While the African representatives would impress in the first half, they could not lead at halftime. This was particularly because a goal they scored would be disallowed for offside.

Continuing to dominate play in the second half, Tunisia equalised in the 58th minute through a strike from captain and poster boy Wahbi Khazri.

In the tough contest that ensued from there on, Antoine Griezmann scored in stoppage time for France but it was ruled out because of an offside.

Despite holding on to win by a lone goal, Tunisia fell shot on the standings of Group D.

The four points saw Tunisia finish third behind Australia and France. As a result, the Carthage Eagles have been sent home packing.
