World Cup 2022: We allowed our heads to drop a bit - Ghana midfielder Salis Samed on Andre Ayew penalty miss

Ghana midfielder Salis Abdul Samed admits his teammates lost focus after Andre Ayew missed the penalty in their 2-0 defeat to Uruguay in the final round game at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Al Sadd forward missed a penalty in the 21st minute as his kick was saved by Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio Rochet following a foul on Mohammed Kudus.

Uruguay went on to win the game 2-0 thanks to goals from Giorgio de Arrascaeta in the 26th and 32nd minutes of the game but it was not enough as teams went out of the tournament.

"He [Andre Ayew] missed a penalty; every great player misses a penalty because Lionel Messi has missed two penalties at the last two World Cups."

"But it was still 0-0 so we could have continued to do what we were doing but somehow we allowed our heads to drop a bit. We did the same thing against Korea and conceded two goals," Samed told Daily Graphic.

"We need to concentrate and fight from start to the end even if the scoreline is not in our favour."

Ghana crashed out of the tournament after finishing bottom of Group H with three points, losing two and winning one.
