Cameroon goalkeeper Devis Epassy has charged his teammates to hold their heads high despite exiting the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The former African champions defeated Brazil in their final Group G game but it was in vain as they finished in third, two points behind the South Americans and Switzerland who defeated Serbia 3-2 in the other group.

Vincent Aboubakar scored the game's only goal in the stoppage-time give Cameroon a 1-0 win.

"We can be proud of what we've done because we've shown that we can also be a top team. We worked very hard for each other," he said.

"Unfortunately though, we don't qualify for the next round. That's why we are not too happy, but it's not on account of the performance."

Epassy, who replaced first-choice keeper Andre Onana started their final two matches and won the man-of-the-match award on Friday.

Cameroon, who became the first African side to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup in 1990 have failed to progress from the group stages in six appearances at the finals since then.
