The quotes come after apparent interest from Italian side Roma, who are said to want cover for the position whilst wingerMohamed Salah is away withAfrican Cup of Nations duty for Egypt.

If he did opt to sign for Roma, it would mean a return to Serie A, having played there for 6 months before making his move to The Potters. He is currently away on international duty, where heplayed81 minutes during Switzerland's win over Hungary at the weekend, before playing 79 minutes in the tough encounter withAndorra.

Shaqiri will be back in England before the important clash with Sunderland on Saturday, and will be hoping to change the fortunes of the side who currently sit second from bottom in the Premier League, just 1 place above Sunderland.
